The Bassmaster Elite, a premiere fishing tournament that travels all over the country, is here this weekend in Cecil County! Around 115 of the world’s top anglers will compete this weekend at the Chesapeake Bay for a grand prize of $100,000. “We’ve hosted two Bassmaster Opens, one in 2009 and the other in 2010, but this is the first time we’ve hosted a Bassmaster Elite. We’re extremely pleased to welcome the Bassmaster Elite family to our shores,” says Sandy Turner, Tourism Coordinator for Cecil County Tourism.
The Chesapeake Bay is known for hosting all different fishing events, but the Bassmaster Elite is planned to be one of the bigger events the area will host. Anglers have traveled all over the United States to compete in one of the country’s most recognized tournaments. Turner states, “There are only 8 Elite events in the country each year and Cecil County Maryland is proud to be one of the selected sites for 2015.”
Turner also states, “The Bassmaster Elite tournament will generate an estimated $2 million in press and economic impact for our area. Elite tournaments attract around 15,000 – 30,000 spectators and the event will be filmed by ESPN.” With national coverage, the Bassmaster Elite will be an event that will have fans and participants wanting to take part of this unique event time and time again, as well as putting Cecil County on the map as a premiere fishing destination in the nation.
Angling fans across the country can watch a one hour show about the Elite tournament in the Upper Chesapeake Bay and Cecil County Maryland, which airs after the event on ESPN2 and The Outdoor Channel.
