TEAM Maryland Tuesday: Ocean City

Hosting events from cheerleading competitions and bike shows to sand soccer and lacrosse tournaments, Ocean City is the place to be for sun, sand and sporting events for all!

Located on Maryland’s eastern shore, Ocean City prides itself on their 214,000 square feet of convention space at the Roland Powell Convention Center, as well as 10 miles of free sand and surf, three miles of the world famous Ocean City boardwalk and marvelous parks hosting first-class events year round.

One of Ocean City’s most recognized events is the White Marlin Open, the world’s largest and richest billfish tournament, with prize monies nearing five million dollars this year. Year in and year out, the tournament brings in roughly 300 boats and 200 participants, while many Ocean City locals watch from the inlet or nearby restaurants.

Having the ocean, the land and the sand makes Ocean City attractive to organizations and event holders looking for a unique place to land their event. Tournaments such as the Brine Beach Lax Festival, Beach 5 Sand Soccer Series and even the Mite Beach Bash, an ice hockey tournament that partners with the Carousel Resort and creates a hockey rink in the middle of their hotel, are unique to participants and the spectators, creating a positive experience in Ocean City.

Donna Abbott, Director of Tourism for Ocean City stated, “Ocean City continues to grow as an amateur sports destination. From large cheerleading competitions at our Roland E. Powell Convention Center to sand soccer tournaments on our beautiful beach, Ocean City is pleased to host a variety of sporting events. As a popular East Coast family vacation destination, the amenities our vacationers enjoy are also available to the thousands of families who travel here with their children to participate in sports events.”
