With topography as varied as the U.S. itself, Maryland is primed and ready to host any event a sports planner has in mind. From mountain biking and whitewater kayaking in Western Maryland, to marlin fishing in Ocean City, to soccer in the plethora of sports-field complexes spread across the state, to cheerleading and gymnastics events in the Baltimore City and Ocean City Convention Centers, to indoor or outdoor tennis complexes to baseball in no less than nine minor league ballparks and more, the state has much to offer. It’s also accessible to travelers using any mode of transportation. In short, according to Terry Hasseltine, executive director of Maryland Sports, it’s a perfect location, and one planners should be considering in their site selection decisions.
This summer the world is watching Rio, and we at Maryland Sports are no different. 12 Marylanders are competing in the Olympics, 11 for Team USA and one for Team Jamaica. From the opening

Last weekend, Under Armor and Corrigan Sports help execute another flawless weekend of lacrosse that highlighted the best players in the country at three different ages. The weekend featured the Under Armour All-American games, which showcases the top 44 recent graduates from the North and South for both men’s and women’s lacrosse. Then the usual Under Armour Underclassmen games were split this year into two division Command and Highlight. The command division was created to include rising high school freshman and also included rising sophomores from 11 regions. While the highlight division, featured the top rising juniors and seniors from the same 11 regions. The 11 regions are Baltimore, Long Island, Midwest, New England, New Jersey, Philadelphia, South, Southwest, Upstate New York, DC, and West. Throughout the whole weekend, over 1000 athletes competed in this wonderful event put on by Corrigan Sports and Under Armour.

Laxin’ Out Loud is a girls youth lacrosse tournament hosted by Top of the Bay Lacrosse at Calvert and Cedar Lane Regional Parks. Cecil and Harford Counties- the locations of both parks- played hosts to around 6,000 avid girls lacrosse players and their families, mainly from the Mid-Atlantic states. My fellow summer intern Adam and I were offered the opportunity to work the tournament at Calvert Regional Sports Park, getting to experience first hand everything that goes into executing a well run tournament. One of our TEAM Maryland partners, Cindy Cantor with Cecil County Parks & Recreation, took Adam and I under her wing as we got to witness first hand the fruits of her labor- securing the land, developing a site plan, building Calvert Regional and recruiting events- come to fruition.
